Dr. Nancy Rivenburgh, Crossroads lecturer on "The Future of News Reporting" Feb. 26

From the Crossroads Committee

International events, foreign policy — How do the media shape what happens?  Join Crossroads to explore the future of how the news is reported, with Dr. Nancy Rivenburgh, Associate Professor of Communications at the University of Washington.   Dr. Rivenburgh has spoken and written extensively about media roles in international relations, global media events, and international crises.  Her lecture will focus on the future of news reporting internationally.

Professor Rivenburgh’s primary teaching and research focus is in political communication. She investigates the various roles of media in international relations, including how media affects diplomacy, media as a government tool, and media as a catalyst for change.  She also studies the “production” and the character of international events as presented by the media. Her research often involves multi-nation comparisons of news presentations of global issues in order to understand the differences, and similarities, in the construction of news across media systems in different countries.

Join Orcas Crossroads for our first lecture of the winter/spring 2012 season.  Dr. Rivenburgh will speak on Sunday, February 26th, 2:00 p.m. at Orcas Center.  Tickets are $10 and are available at Darvills, at the door, and on line at www.orcascrossroads.org.  A reception with the speaker will be held following the presentation and question time.
