— from Brooke Bruland for Orcas Park & Rec —

Orcas Park & Rec is not ready to say goodbye to summer, but we are looking forward to the upcoming fall season.  Look over our attached fall flyer and get registered ASAP for the upcoming activities. You must register two weeks prior to the program start. We have limited spots in most of our programs. Please remember to register early to avoid disappointment. We don’t like cancelling programs. Unfortunately sometimes people wait too long to register and we have to cancel an activity. Don’t let your child miss out on OIPRD programs. Limited scholarships are available. Please have scholarship forms filled out by Friday, August 30.

Looking for VOLUNTEER COACHES, GET INVOLVED!

NEW THIS YEAR:
Flag Football Travel Team: We are partnering with Skagit YMCA to offer optional off-island play. Please note we will continue to offer our on-island Flag football program. Looking for a fun and safe way to learn the complex game of football? This league will teach players various skills including catching, throwing, running, defense, and play-calling. This is a great option for kids and parents who are eating for full contact but still want a fun alternative. This league also gives kids a chance to play all of the skilled positions on offense if desired. Games will be 4v4 with appropriate rule adjustments for playing indoors. Games on Saturdays at the YMCA Sports Center in Mount Vernon. Grades 5th-8th. Questions or interested in coaching!? Contact us for more information at oiprd@oiprd.org or give us a call (360)376-7275.

Soccer Travel Team: We are offering the 5th/6th graders an opportunity to travel to Skagit areas to participate on a recreational travel team to prepare for middle school athletics. Games will be 9v9 played on Saturdays in Skagit area. Teams will be limited to 14 participants. We are actively recruiting coaches for this program. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering. We will continue our 4th-6th grade youth soccer program with on-island scrimmages and games with Lopez Island.

DROP-IN Sports: This fall we have added family-friendly drop-in dodgeball on Sundays, 4-6pm starting September 8. Bring family and friends. $2/player

All 7th-12th graders join OIPRD the 2nd Friday of every month during the school year from 6-8pm at the OHS gym for TEEN GYM NIGHT. We will have high-energy activities including dodgeball, basketball, soccer and other activities with PRIZES!

See you in Buck Park!
