If you have ever been to see a play at The Grange, you know what a special place it is. The atmosphere that The Actors Theater of Orcas Island provides its actors and audiences is enjoyable, intimate, warm, fun and welcoming. The audience can’t help but have a wonderful experience as our local actors shine on the small stage.

This year marks the Actors Theater Eighth Annual PlayFest! For those who don’t already know, PlayFest is as local and homegrown as it gets. Seven short plays, all written by local playwrights, directed by seven local directors, and brought to fruition by actors/members of the community…you!

PlayFest has been the start for many talented island actors, who had always wanted to give the stage a try, and did. There will be two days of auditions available to the aspiring actors. You only need to attend one audition. The two audition days will be led by Melinda Milligan and Cara Russell. Ii will be a relaxed and fun experience. Even if you have never acted before, we encourage you to come and audition.

A cast of twenty actors are needed, ranging from age eight to eighty. This year the PlayFest selection will include drama, comedy, cerebral, and truly tender moments.

The seven plays are available to be read at the front desk at the Orcas Island Library, and those auditioning are encourage to take a look at the plays beforehand.

It is also worth mention that our Orcas PlayFest has recently received some positive attention, and has been featured in Stage Directions, a national magazine.

Rehearsals will start soon after auditions, and will run through the end of April, with seven performances between April 26th, and May 12th. If you have any questions about auditions, or would like to be involved in any other way please contact Cara Russell at 376-6052 or lobby_drifter@hotmail.com.

Come to the audition and help bring these wonderful plays to fruition.
