Parents, educators, counselors, youth and curious folk are invited to the next open forum meeting of the Youth Conservation Corps on Monday, April 8 at the Funhouse Commons.
We will begin at 5 p.m. with a simple potluck. On the agenda are:
- summer projects,
- equipment needs,
- crew member logistics.
Local Conservation Corps provide county-wide environmental conservation activities for youth. Life skills and camaraderie are built through service. Trail building, restoration plantings, and biological monitoring and other land and beach projects are in the works.
Participants in grades 8-12 receive a stipend when projects are completed. Volunteer opportunities are open for community members. Applications will be on hand.
The Lopez Island Conservation Corps (LICC) and the San Juan Island Conservation Corps (SJICC) are partners with the Orcas Youth Conservation Corps (OYCC) for the success of our inaugural year.
