With  1,814 ballots counted and nearly a 65 percent “yes” vote, the 2012 Orcas Island School District Maintenance and Operations Levy has passed.

The levy replaces the previous levy, which has expired, and is in place for the next four years.

The Special Election, held by mail-in ballot, closed on Feb. 14. There are an estimated 500 ballots left to count, in a 47.55 percent voter turnout. Of the registered  11,305 county voters, 5,376 ballots had been counted as of Feb. 15.  In the Orcas School District vote,  1,199 voted for the proposition and 655, or 33.3 percent,  voted against it.

The final count will be tabulated on Feb. 16 at 5 p.m.
