||| FROM RICK RHOADS for ORCAS ISLAND FOOD BANK |||
Volunteers help ensure that everyone in our island community has access to a secure supply of nutritious food, much of it locally grown. Islanders of all ages are welcome to join the Food Bank’s diverse team. Volunteers can sign up for a weekly 2-hour shift — or more.
Volunteers fill customer’s orders and sort, stock, and repackage food. Some volunteers heft 50-lb. sacks of potatoes and onions; others divide herbs into 2-oz. packages.
To volunteer or learn more, call 360-376-4445 and leave a message, or email Alison O’Toole, volunteer coordinator, at xalisonotoole@gmail.com.
If you can’t join now, please consider filling out an application for the fall season, which starts in mid-August. Future volunteer opportunities include gleaning fruits and vegetables from farm fields, bag packing, setup, breakdown (after 6 p.m.), delivery, and receiving. #NeighborsHelpingNeighbors
At the OIFB, you always have a seat at the table, a friend in the field, and, this summer, a chef in the kitchen.
