Coffelt Farms board member Sara Joy Palmer graciously accepted a donation from Orcas Food Co-op on behalf of Coffelt Farms. The donation is part of an ongoing program sponsored by the Co-op called the “3% Thursday Program”. On the third Thursday of each month 3% of the Co-op’s gross receipts are donated to pre-selected community organizations.
Organizations are eligible based on their service to the community in the following areas: local community service organizations, organic food, healthy food for children or seniors, environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural practices, human rights, environmental preservation and groups with similar missions and values.
The 2017 organizations selected for the “3% Thursday Program” are:
- January 19: The Funhouse Commons
- February 16: Coffelt Farm Stewards
- March 16: Orcas Animal Protection Society
- April 20: The Exchange
- May 18: Island Reproductive Health Initiative
- June 15: Orcas Island Rowing Association
- July 20: OPAL Community Land Trust
- August 17: Sustainable FARM Fund
- September 21: Orcas Island Children’s House
- October 19: Kaleidoscope
- November 16: Healing Arts Center
- December 21: Orcas Island Senior Center
