3rd graders holding up thank you sign for volunteers

On Thursday, June 14, Orcas Elementary held its annual volunteer appreciation assembly.  Elementary students gathered to thank the many parents and community members who volunteer their time throughout the school year.

Volunteers help the school in all kinds of ways including reading with students, stuffing homework packets, chaperoning field trips, and many other tasks.  Volunteers make the school environment so much richer and help teachers and faculty accomplish a safe and productive place for the children.

Children handed out flowers and certificates to the volunteers, serenaded the volunteers, read them a poem and applauded them for all their hard work.  Please contact Lorena Stankevich if you would like to get involved at Orcas Elementary for the 2018-19 school year. RSVP by email to Lorena Stankevich at lstankevich@orcas.k12.wa.us.

Orcas Island Elementary School is housed in the Nellie S. Milton Building, the historic home to the Orcas Island School District. Today Preschool through 5th grade students begin their educational experience in this classic school building. Both the Milton Building and the 100+ year old maple tree, in front of the school, are community landmarks.
