The Friends of Olga Store are announcing that $650,000 in pledges, loans, and donations has been reached for purchase of the Olga Store. They are now prepared to make an offer on the building and have achieved full 501(C)(3) status.
Friends of The Olga Store Building, have been organizing the effort to restore this historic building to house the new Post Office, a small Co-op grocery, and an apartment.
The Friends have been working to buy The Olga Store as a community and manage it as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that will serve the east end of Orcas and beyond.

Congratulations on reaching that very ambitious goal of $650,000 for the purchase of the Olga Store – and for achieving your 501(C)(3) status!
I hate to site the “Orcas Community Spirit”, because it’s fleeting, at best. But this is one situation where, when the passion to accomplish it is there, and it’s the “right thing to do”, we will come together to bring it about. Also, throw in a little salesmanship… Hooray!
A few other efforts come to mind: Turtleback Mt., OPAL’s latest project, April’s Grove, the school track, even painting Orcas Center which involved volunteers with brush knowhow, donation to the myriad of causes…currently OICF’s Holiday Catalog .
We can all give a few pennies or a few minutes of our time.
And don’t forget underwriting health care for $750,000! Congratulations to another successful Orcas venture.
