||| FROM KIM KIMPLE for ORCAS FIRE & RESCUE |||
Orcas Island Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a fully involved house fire in the 100-block of Cascade Way on Sunday, January 9 at 11:55 a.m.
The fire was called in by multiple individuals in the area who noticed smoke and flames pouring from the structure. Responding units found heavy smoke and flames upon arrival and began a defensive attack on the multi-story residential structure.
A total of 17 personnel spent over 6 hours knocking down the fire, bringing in a local excavator to assist with fire overhaul. Water supply was maintained using a water tender that shuttled water to the scene from a nearby hydrant. There were two minor injuries reported by personnel during the incident.
There were no occupants home when the fire ignited, one pet was presumed to be inside and has not been located. The structure was a complete loss, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to keep your smoke detectors working at all times, keep all flammables away from heat sources, have your chimneys cleaned and only burn clean, dry firewood in well-sealed and properly installed fireplaces.
