The Orcas Island Education Foundation (OIEF) is making plans for its May 19, 2011 Food for Thought event.
For the last two Food For Thought events, OIEF has called on local artists to take an unadorned object and make it their own. These works of art are then auctioned at the event, with proceeds benefiting our public schools. In the past, artists have turned plain wooden fish and boxes into stunning works of art. Many have asked, and now we can reveal — OIEF is pleased to announce the upcoming object for the Food for Thought event: an egg.
With the change of date from fall to spring – the noble egg seemed a fitting choice for this year’s canvas. Artists can choose from two different versions of the egg: one egg that is 4.5” made of solid wood, and a second that comes in two-parts, is hollow, and is made of cardboard. Both examples are available for artists to hold and consider at the Chamber of Commerce Office. The OIEF will order the eggs based on artist’s preference.
Below is the timeline for ordering and delivery of the finished egg for auction:
February 15 – Deadline for Artists to choose eggs
March 1 – Artists may pick up eggs from Chamber Office
May 1 – Deadline for artists to deliver eggs so they may be displayed in town
If you’re an artist interested in participating in the Food For Thought event this year, please stop by the Chamber of Commerce Office at your earliest convenience to sign up and order your egg. OIEF Board President Janet Brownell says, “We look forward to see what you ‘hatch.’”
