There’s never been a better time to get fit. After seven months of pandemic-induced calorie intake and government-ordered solitary, a new fitness center opens Monday bringing a fresh breath of life to the community.
Owner Debbie Liblik first fell in love with the gym nearly 20 years ago when she took on the manager’s position at Orcas Athletics. “I absolutely loved everything about working at the athletic center,” beams Liblik. “It has always been one of my favorite times in life and I have often dreamed of returning.”
The gym isn’t the only thing that stole her heart. After getting to know front-desk-regular, Toomas Liblik, the two fell in love and started a family of their own, welcoming son, TJ, in 2004. Bringing their journey full circle, the Libliks are happy to be back at it. “We are so excited to have the opportunity to bring fun and fitness back into this space,” she continues.
Debbie, Toomas, and TJ, now 15, have worked tirelessly to get the facility ready for opening. Originally hoping for an August launch, they have conquered unplanned setbacks and navigated ever-changing COVID-19 safety measures.
“It has definitely been a challenge, and we are looking forward to the day things can be back to relatively normal,” Liblik shares.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Orcas Island Fitness Center will operate under strict state guidance including daily check-in and sanitizing upon entry, limited capacity in each room, shortened hours to allow for deep cleaning and temporary closure of some spaces, such as the dry saunas.
The pool is open to lane swimming, small group events by reservation, and swim lessons with Miss Susie. Aamiee Johnson kicks off fitness classes in the morning, with additional time and space available for movement and fitness instructors, as well as spa specialists.
Memberships are available now. More information about Orcas Island Fitness Center is available at www.orcasislandfitness.com
