Christine Minney and Cindy Wolf were sworn in as members of the San Juan County Council at 11:00 am this morning. San Juan County Superior Court Judge Kathryn Loring presided over the ceremony. Due to COVID restrictions, attendance in the courtroom where the ceremony was held was limited to the Judge, incoming Councilmembers and a photographer. Over forty online observers also witnessed the ceremony.

In taking the oath of office, Minney and Wolf affirmed the following:

“I do solemnly swear that I am a citizen of the United States and the State of Washington, that I will support the Constitution and laws of the United States, the Constitution and laws of the State of Washington, and the Charter, laws and ordinances of San Juan County. And that I will faithfully and impartially perform the duties of the office of County Council member in and for the County of San Juan in the State of Washington according to the best of my ability and understanding.”

Minney and Wolf will join incumbent Jamie Stephens on the Council. After the swearing-in ceremony, Stephens offered his congratulations, “I’m really looking forward to working with the new Council. They’ve already been working hard, participating in trainings, attending meetings, and looking forward to getting to work and off to a fast start. I think it will be both fun and good for the County.”

The first meeting of the newly formed County Council will be on Wednesday, December 30. As the meeting is scheduled as an executive session, it will not be recorded or live-streamed.
