After the Wednesday, November 3 tabulation, challenger Jamie Stephens led incumbent Bob Myhr in the race for District 6 Council seat by just two votes.

The Friday afternoon update, at 2:18 p.m., showed that Stephens increased his lead over Myhr by two more votes 859 to 855. Stephens thus has garnered 50.12% of the ballots counted, as opposed to Myhr’s 49.88%. The next vote tally  is scheduled for Nov. 19.

On Wednesday, all ballots picked up from the Lopez drop box at 8 pm on Tuesday night, as well as all ballots received by mail through Wednesday, were processed.  Ballots picked up from the Orcas box on Tuesday, as well as any additional ballots arriving by mail, will be processed on Friday of this week.

“This race could well end up in a recount,” says Auditor Milene Henley.  “If the final tally has the candidates less than ¼ of a percent apart—which they are now—a hand recount is required by law.
