This September, donations to the Orcas Community Resource Center will go twice as far thanks to a $15,000 matching gift from three local businesses: Island Market, Ray’s Pharmacy, and Island Life. Now in its fifth year, the September match has become a meaningful annual tradition of giving on Orcas. Every gift made to the Resource Center during the month of September will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $15,000.
The campaign highlights the role locally owned businesses play in helping Orcas thrive. When islanders support local businesses, those businesses are better able to reinvest in the people and organizations that strengthen the community.
“Each year, this match is a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when local businesses and community members come together,” said Megan Metcalf, Development, Communications, and Community Outreach Manager at the Orcas Community Resource Center. “At a time when many island households are facing rising costs and ongoing housing challenges, September gifts help connect neighbors with critical resources — and this match allows every donation to go even further.”
Funds raised through the September match will support the Resource Center’s core services, including housing support, health and medical navigation, food access, Coates Cabinet Hygiene Bank, and financial literacy programs. These programs provide stability and practical support for island families, seniors, and individuals during difficult moments. Last year, the Resource Center assisted more than 750 households, underscoring the steady need for these services on Orcas.
As longtime local businesses, Island Market and Ray’s Pharmacy have been part of daily life on Orcas for generations, serving residents, visitors, and families year-round. Their continued participation in the September match, alongside Island Life, reflects a shared commitment to investing in the wellbeing of the community that supports them.
Donations can be made online at orcascrc.org, by mail to PO Box 931, or in person at the Resource Center’s office at 374 North Beach Rd. in Eastsound. Thanks to Island Market, Ray’s Pharmacy, and Island Life, every dollar given this September will have twice the impact for Orcas neighbors.
