What does it take to imagine a better future—and what can the next generation teach us about making it happen?

Join award-winning journalist Meera Subramanian and beloved poet and author Maleea Acker for an inspiring conversation about our changing planet, the power of young voices, and the places we call home.

Meera’s new graphic nonfiction book, A Better World Is Possible: Global Youth Confront the Climate Crisis, illustrated by Danica Novgorodoff, follows four young activists taking action to shape the future. Bestselling author John Green calls it “an urgent, helpful, and hopeful portrait of what’s possible.”

Maleea is the author of Gardens Aflame, an exploration of the endangered Garry oak meadows of the Salish Sea, their Indigenous stewardship, and the people working to restore them—including here in the San Juan Islands.

They’ll be introduced by Friends of the San Juans’ Youth Ambassador Emmett Beadnall, then together they’ll answer your questions and explore the possibility of meaningful change.

And a little something to take home: Every guest will receive a poem by Maleea Acker.
