— from Michael Durland —
I have lived on Orcas for over 30 years and have seen the antics of a Fire Department out of control spending money building million dollar buildings and covering up their actions without remorse. I want someone with integrity and honesty in this position of authority. Someone who I can trust to do what is right under stressful situations. Someone who will do what is best for the community and our Fire Department without bias. Someone who will install confidence as a leader, who is willing to stand up and admit it if a member of the Department acts contrary to the high ideals of a public servant. Someone who will listen if we have an opinion. We are trusting these people with our property and lives. A Commissioners must be beyond reproach. I have known Julie Remington for several years. I am a neighbor to Wes Heinmiller.
My vote is for Julie Remington. Julie has experience with the Department and will bring a standard of integrity and honesty needed in this position of authority.

I also know both Julie Remington and Wes Heinmiller. I note that these endorsements are getting more and more heated. This one from Michael Durland seems to imply that Wes Heinmiller is not a man of integrity. I think that is not true. There may be differences between these candidates, but a lack of integrity in Wes is not one of them. If we want community members to run for these important positions, we should maintain civility during and after the campaigns.
