The Labor Day Holiday seems like an ideal time to acknowledge the expert work of the men and women of Orcas Island Fire and Rescue.
In an ancillary role with the Rescue component, I regularly observe the high quality of training, service and commitment of these paid and volunteer individuals.
Recently I was the recipient of their expertise and thank Dmitri Stankevich, Chad Kimple, Jane Gray and Bryce Hamilton for their compassionate care, being confident that other teams would have been just as caring and efficient.
Living at such a distance from the sophistication of today’s hospital emergency departments we are extremely fortunate to have dedicated people we can trust when we are in need. Thanks to every member of OIFR!

Hear hear!!
Absolutely – in every way, shape and form. We would be in real trouble (fire-wise and health-wise) without them!!
Love you guys and gals. Thank you for what you do!
I love you brave people of Orcas Island Fire & Rescue, too!
And I want to work with my neighbors and all of us in San Juan County to be FireWise in the holistic sense.
This will not only help people; it will also help the diversity of plants and animals that we treasure.
