I plan to vote for Kari McVeigh for County Council representing District 2. I have known Kari since she moved to San Juan Island and have watched her become a busy and concerned citizen of our community. Kari has used her many talents and vast experience to solve problems that the people of San Juan County are now facing.

Kari has educated herself about the issues that a member of the San Juan County council will need to address such as the conflict between the Town of Friday Harbor and San Juan County. She anticipates the problems that will occur when the current contract with Bonneville Power expires in 2028. She understands the need for alternative sources of electricity during an emergency. Kari understands the limited water supply for our islands and supports the needs for an evaluation before any additional regulations are made.

Kari has devoted her adult life to making things better for those she serves. She has been a dedicated educator which was evidenced by the work she did as Interim Superintendent of San Juan Island School District. As a substitute teacher in this district, I saw that Kari’s main goal was to see that students had the resources that they needed to work through the recent COVID epidemic. She saw that meals were supplied and district employees were employed preparing and delivering them.

She has stepped forward to support the Shaw Island School District as Superintendent. In this new position, she is working to have the new district provide affordable housing for its teachers.

As previously stated, I plan to vote for Kari McVeigh because I know that she is the best qualified and most committed candidate.
