||| FROM MINNIE KNYCH |||
There were several statements made by some of the candidates at the forum on Saturday that deserve fact checking. One statement by Kari McVeigh needs a fact check. When asked why she solicited and got an endorsement from the Democrat Party for a position on county council that is supposed to be non-partisan, she answered that the Republican Party has a statement in their platform that is opposed to gay marriage. She then said she is a gay woman implying that she is a victim of discrimination.
The platform for SJ County Republicans is attached. THERE IS NO SUCH CLAUSE IN THE SAN JUAN COUNTY REPUBLICAN PLATFORM.
The SJCRP Platform is also posted on the San Juan County Republican website at https://sjcrp.org/about/your-pcos/
Kari’s untrue statement makes it clear that she will NOT represent all SJ County citizens if elected and that she has a bias against a large segment of our population.

Ms. Kynch – you should check your website and look at section 2.3, under Government and Spending Reform. Your platform, ratified again this year, says:
2.3.3 We support freedom of religion, speech, and assembly as described in the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution and the Washington State Constitution. Business owners and individuals must be able to live in accordance with their convictions, for example, belief that marriage is the term for the legal union between one man and one woman.
Your statement that there is no such clause in the Republican Party platform is incorrect and misleading.
I suggest Kynch and her local R party instead fact check their presidential candidate. They have zero credibility if they don’t.
Ms. Knych of all people should know that “Democrat Party” is an incorrect usage, since Democrat is a noun, whereas Democratic is an adjective. For years and years, Republicans have used that term as a pejorative.
