— from Carol A. Owens, CRNA, USAF 1Lt., Vietnam Era —
Watching TV last night, I heard for the first time of two very important organizations, dedicated to help Veterans with the difficulties of their return to civilian life, after being in the horrors of war. There were two veterans, and a dog, enlightening the audience not only about those difficulties, but about ways to help.
The mother organization is “Guardians of Rescue” and the program they sponsor: “Paws of War.
After the discussion, the Vet who has been suffering with PTSD talked about the training he had been doing with one of the dogs from Paws of War…and then the dog came out, and the Vet learned that this was the day he could take her home with him. He sobbed, the dog nuzzled him–just one example of the boundless love and help we receive from our canine friends.
Please, check out the website. Help if you can.
For Veterans Day tomorrow, make a gesture which matters. Each day, twenty-two veterans commit suicide. These dogs help prevent that, and the organization needs help.
