||| FROM VALA ROSS for ORCAS CHORAL SOCIETY |||

The Orcas Choral Society invites singers of all experience levels to kick off the Fall/Winter season with a Community Potluck and Open Rehearsal on Thursday, September 10, at 6:00 p.m. at Orcas Center. The event is free and open to everyone.

Guests are invited to bring a potluck dish to share, meet Artistic Director Bruce Langford and current choir members, preview the music for the upcoming season, and get a feel for what it’s like to sing with the chorus. Those who decide to join can complete registration and stay for the first rehearsal.
No audition is required, and new singers are warmly welcomed. Regular rehearsals are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., making participation accessible for working adults, high school students, and anyone with daytime commitments. Whether you’re an experienced singer or haven’t sung in years, the Orcas Choral Society offers a welcoming environment where everyone can learn, grow, and make music together.
This season’s expanded community outreach and programming are supported in part by the San Juan County Cultural Access Program, which invests in arts, heritage, and cultural opportunities throughout San Juan County. The grant helps the Orcas Choral Society provide professional artistic leadership, accessible music education, and community programming that welcomes both returning members and first-time singers.
Cultural Access funding supports recruitment, instruction, and public performances, helping ensure that more island residents can experience the educational, social, and artistic benefits of choral music. The support also makes it possible for the Choral Society to welcome a broader range of singers into a high-quality musical experience without requiring previous formal training.
The choir’s first concert of the season will feature The Many Moods of Christmas, performed December 5 and 6 at Orcas Center. The holiday program will showcase the beauty of choral music and high quality, multi-media performance, including Orcas Dance Collective.

Singing in a choir offers much more than preparing for concerts. It builds friendships, strengthens confidence, develops musicianship, and creates meaningful connections across generations.

Community singing can also support emotional well-being, reduce stress, and foster a sense of belonging—all while creating something beautiful together.
So whether you’re looking for a creative outlet, hoping to meet new people, returning to music after a long break, or simply love to sing, come to the open rehearsal. Bring a dish, bring a friend, bring your voice..
