The school year is coming to an end, but that does not mean amazing food from our school cafeteria has to also. On Wednesday, May 25, the Farm to Cafeteria Program will host its third, and final, Celebrity Chef event of the school year. With our luck, we were able to get Executive Chef at Rosario, Raymond Southern, to plan and prepare a Mediterranean-inspired meal!
Since his arrival to the island, Raymond has been busy making a name for himself through his authentic cuisine at The Mansion Restaurant in Rosario Resort. If you have been to the resort in recent months, it is likely you have seen or met Raymond in the dining hall. He often steps out of the kitchen to say hello to diners or personally serve a meticulously plated entrée. In March, he came to our cafeteria to speak of his interest in teaming up with our cafeteria staff. He was enthusiastic about our new kitchen, culinary arts room and the meals our crew cooks from scratch. We are equally enthusiastic to have him in the school cafeteria preparing a lunch for our students and Island community members!
On the menu will be Youvetsi (local beef, whole grain orzo & tomatoes), Pide (Turkish style bread) and Ekmek (custard like desert). A Greek themed salad bar will accompany the entree! Adults can enjoy this flavorful Mediterranean-inspired meal, a trip to the salad bar and a beverage for just $6. Parents are encouraged to eat with their kids and the community is invited to come for lunch between 12:10 and 12:40 p.m.
If you are interested in volunteering to help make this event a success please contact Ashley Randall at arandall@orcas.k12.wa.us
We look forward to seeing you in the cafeteria on May 25!
