— from Dennis King —

The Lahari Board of Directors welcomes Stephen Bentley as its new President, succeeding Don Webster. Stephen, an island resident since 2011, joined the Lahari board last spring. Prior to joining Lahari, Stephen has been quite active volunteering in our community as an Orcas Lions Club member, running the Lions Mobility Equipment Loaner Program, an Orcas Senior Center Volunteer, the former chair of the Orcas Senior Center Operations Committee and currently leads the Senior Center Book Club.

Nationally, over 10,000 people are turning 65 every day. This enormous growth in the senior population is seen on our island as well, creating an increased demand for services to help us stay on Orcas as we age. Stephen brings a wealth of experience and compassion to guide Lahari, working with other Orcas senior service providers, to create the programs and services to meet these needs.

Originally founded as a Hospice Facility, Lahari has expanded its mission to address all of the challenges of aging on Orcas. Lahari has programs that increase the skills and access to Orcas caregivers, a program that helps prevent accidents in the home, and operates an assistive transportation service for homebound Orcas Seniors.

For more information about Lahari’s programs please visit LahariOnOrcas.org.
