||| FROM SUZANNE OLSON for ORCAS ISLAND PICKLEBALL CLUB |||

The Orcas Island Pickleball Club (OIPC) invites all islanders and visitors to come check out the fun and inclusive community of all ages playing pickleball at Buck Park. The courts are public and open to all. The following events are scheduled to give seasoned and new players alike a chance to hone their skills, enjoy competitive and recreational play and make new friends.

  • Saturday, June 7 th – 2-5pm: Pickleball Scramble + Bites and Beverages in the Park. This is a fun social event for players of all levels to mix up and play together. Sign up to play on playtimescheduler.com. Bring your own non-alcoholic beverages and a snack to share following play. No cost.
  • Sunday, June 22 nd – 9-4pm: Pickleball Clinic on Strategic Play. Just a few spots left in this special clinic with the pros from The Pickleball Experience, including our own Jemuel Morris. Cost is $200. Limited to 16 players. Includes bonus “play with the pros” session on Saturday, June 21 from 2-6pm (for clinic participants only), followed by a club BBQ. Register online: thepickleballexperience.com/sanjuanislands2025.
  • Saturday-Sunday, August 2-3 – ALL DAY: Orcas Island Pickleball Club Summer Tournament. There are brackets for women, men and mixed doubles in recreational or advanced divisions. Registration at orcaspickleball.org opens in early June. Event sponsorships are available – and we are also seeking donations of local goods and services for prizes and raffle. Tournament proceeds are shared with local non-profit
    organizations.

Pickleball beginners are welcome to reach out to our club for a free first lesson and orientation to the rules of the game. There is open play all week long at all levels that players can join in on, once they have a basic understanding of the game. Contact Patty Miller at pattymiller@rockisland.com to schedule a beginner’s session with one of our club players.

Many players use the app playtimescheduler.com to announce game times, find players and organize social round robin events. You can also just come to Buck Park and put your paddle in the paddle rack on the fence to wait for an opening. When the courts are full, players rotate in and out after one game, keeping the wait times short. Over the summer, court demand goes up with nice weather and pickleball playing visitors. Please be patient and give everyone a chance to share our Buck Park courts! Singles play, drilling and training sessions are fine until the courts
are full and players are waiting.

Membership in the Orcas Island Pickleball Club is open to all players and provides benefits such as access to court equipment, special player and social events, and reduced fees for some tournaments and clinics. The OIPC is a charitable 501(c)3 organization that advocates for pickleball players and improved facilities on Orcas Island and provides a liaison with the Orcas Island Parks & Recreation District (OIPRD), who own the public courts.

The Club has a vision of developing additional pickleball courts at Buck Park over the coming years, in collaboration with the OIPRD, and with the support of the community. Become a member of OIPC today – a great value at $49/year – at orcaspickleball.org.
