Opening November 8 at Orcas Center

Kicking off Orcas Center’s 2018-2019 season on Main Stage is a limited run of La Cage aux Folles, the only Broadway musical to win the Tony for best revival twice.

As a precursor to the hit film The Birdcage, (starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane) the story begins in fabulous St. Tropez among flashing sequins, feathered boas, and larger-than-life personalities at the popular drag club: La Cage aux Folles. Run by Georges and Albin, the two men receive the shock of their lives when George’s son arrives home to announce his engagement to the daughter of a bigoted politician. When the fathers try to honor their son’s request to portray a “normal” family life to their prospective in-laws, comical chaos ensues with love-affirming results.

“Underneath all that is a show about love, partnership, family values, loyalty, honesty and the will to be exactly and unapologetically who you are. It’s a show about aging and coming of age. It is entertainment filled with heart,” Director Bruce Langford explains.

Langford states his affection for the show, noting, “In many ways, these are troubled times. But it’s safe to say, we all agree it’s rarely productive to pretend to be someone you are not. We also believe family is important, and relationships are what matters most in life. That’s the message of La Cage aux Folles and it delivers it with flare.”

La Cage will show November 8 – 11 and November 14 – 18, at 7:30 p.m. at Orcas Center. Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students and there is a $10 opening night and Wednesday the 14th night “Midweek” specials of $10 for all audience members. Tickets are available online at www.OrcasCenter.org or by visiting or calling the Box Office anytime Tuesday through Friday, 12  – 3 p.m. at 376-2281 ext 1.
