||| FROM HILARY CANTY for ORCAS ISLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION |||
It is hard to believe Summer is here (well, almost). May was amazing and June is off to a great start.
We are moving forward with the final inspections for the Pea Patch Lane property and continuing to gather funding pledges in earnest. The closing date is in the beginning of July and we need to have commitments for the sale price in hand by the 15th of June. If you are interested in learning more about the project or in making a pledge to support the purchase, please reach out to me or to Lisa Byers. Fingers crossed, we will be securing this property as a community campus, holding the Orcas Community Resource Center, the Orcas Island Food Bank, and a neighborhood of affordable rental homes provided by OPAL Community Land Trust.
This Tuesday, OICF is hosting an Introduction to Board Service workshop from 3-5 in the Volk Family Meeting Room at the OICF office. This is a great refresher for folks new to boards or considering service. Nancy Stillger and I will be facilitating the conversation and there is still room if you would like to join us. Just let me know so we can save you a seat.
I am also looking for another seasoned Board Member to sit on the panel for the workshop and discuss their experiences and insights as a trustee. If you are interested, please reach out.
Now that the weather has turned, I am going to restart the weekly walks through Eastsound. These hour-long strolls are open to all, and a great way to learn about the many nonprofit programs that serve the community. I have scheduled them for Thursdays at 3, but if you have a better time in mind, let me know and we can make it happen. I hope you will join me soon!
Have a great weekend.
