The Saturday Ikebana Class, taught by Joan D. Stamm at Emmanuel’s Old Parish Hall is now open for new students.

Beginners are welcome, and no previous experience is necessary.  Cost is $10.  Students bring their own plant/flower material and clippers.  Joan provides flower holders, water containers and extra flowers if needed.

Class starts at 2 p.m. with a short talk, demonstration and centering meditation; then students practice their own arrangement while Joan gives individual instruction. Tea and goodies are served informally. The class finishes by 4p.m.  Next class meets Saturday, September 25th.

Joan is the author of Heaven and Earth are Flowers: Reflections on Ikebana and Buddhism (available through Darvill’s, or on-line sources).  She has studied ikebana in Japan and Seattle and holds Shihan (authorization to teach) from the Saga School of Ikebana located in Kyoto.  For pre-registration, e-mail Joan at jstamm@seanet.com, phone 376-1035.
