— from Mindy Sonshine —
Before 9-year-old Chase Connell ventured into a Bingo hall for the first time, on Thursday night, Apr. 6 at the local American Legion, he made a deal with his sister and another friend that he would split the prize with them if he happened to win.
Little did he know that a progressive jackpot has been growing for months at the monthly Legion event without a winner. They pull a limited number of balls for this jackpot game, and pull one additional ball each month to increase the odds of there being a winner. This month they were going to pull 19 balls.
Chase yelled BINGO! after only 9 balls had been pulled, causing much shock among the crowd. He won $221, and decided to share his surprising prize as follows:
$40 to each of the three kids
$21 to the adult who was kind enough to bring him there (who is also donating her share)
$20 to donate to the Library
$20 to donate to the Animal Shelter
$40 to donate to the Food Bank
The Sons of the American Legion sponsors Bingo on the first Thursday of each month as a benefit for Kaleidoscope Preschool.

And the other half of the jackpot went to Kaleidoscope! 4 great organizations and over 50 island families benefited thanks to your generosity!
Way to go Chase!
In honor of Chases generosity our family will be adding $50 to start off the next progressive pot! Join Kaleidoscope the first Thursday of every month and help support Kaleidoscope in supporting island families (or if you’re like Chase, helping lots of Orcas organizations!)
This is a great story. And coming from an island youth.
An inspiration you are Chase.
Thank you kindly.
Chase Connell, I bow to you. You make the world a better place. What an inspiring story to us all.
