Gov. Jay Inslee today updated the Children’s Mental Health Crisis proclamation related to in-person education physical distancing guidelines.
The update will permit Washington’s K-12 school districts to follow the new CDC guidance allowing physical distancing in classrooms of 3 feet. Schools are still allowed to maintain the previously recommended 6 feet physical distancing, if they so choose.
“This order will allow school districts the flexibility to make the best choices for their students, teachers and families,” Inslee said at a press conference Thursday, where he announced the update. “There are thousands of schools in America operating under this guidance right now, and they’re showing it is safe. Importantly, it removes another barrier to getting more kids in the classroom full time.”
