Medea, Thursday, September 4
Streetcar Named Desire, Thursday September 25
Skylight, Thursday, October 23

— from Artha Kass —

9-25 Streetcar ImageHere’s your opportunity for an emersion and/or a refresher in great theatre, three major theatre works from three major writers from three totally different periods of history. From the Greek classic of Euripides, to one of the most famous American playwrights Tennessee Williams, to the contemporary renowned David Hare, Orcas Center will stream live, their works: Medea, A Streetcar Named Desire and Skylight.

Each play is performed by a stellar cast including Gillian Anderson (X-Files, The Fall), Ben Foster (Lone Survivor, Kill Your Darlings), Bill Nighy (Love Actually, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Pirates of the Carribean), Carey Mulligan (Inside Llewyn Davis, The Great Gatsby) and Helen McCrory (Harry Potter, The Queen, The Last of the Haussmans). Each production is filled with the most innovative and ofttimes ingenious sets and sometimes multiple and revolving stages, with lighting and music to send you to emotional heights and costumes reflecting three different periods from the Greeks (415 BC), to the 50s, to today.

In addition to local productions at the Actors Theater, Orcas Center, and other island venues,
we now have the opportunity to leave our magical island and be transported to England or Broadway through technology to see live performance. Not a movie, not film, but you will experience yourself in England watching live theatre with a theatre culture that treasures the past and the present.

10-23 SkylightTwo of the greatest and most coveted female roles ever written and ever scrutinized for performance and comparison are Medea (Helen McCrory) and Blanche DuBois (Gillian Anderson). Both involve troubled relationships with challenging men, some of royal stature, some of physical stature and some of questionable stature.

Check this link to get a taste of what you may look forward to experiencing in the theatre via Orcas Center’s 30 foot HD screen and state of the art surround sound.

If you’re a theatre lover or an infrequent attendee, if you love community theatre productions, take a trip off-island to the London stage and be transported and maybe inspired by these experiences. Many of these productions come to Broadway, which granted, is closer than London, but not as close as here in our 213 seat theater on Orcas Island.

Come one come all. Teachers bring your students; friends bring friends. Share the experience with those who just might treasure it as much as you do. If you are already an NT Live regular attendee, commit to bringing just one person with you to experience it.

Again, this is NOT film; this is live and you will experience yourself in London seated in the 2nd row of the National Theatre. Take yourselves on this voyage through theatre history from your own seat at Orcas Center.
