Director, San Juan County Department of Emergency Management
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for San Juan County. Forecast is for up to 3″ of snow to fall starting after mid-day on Friday. Temperatures are forecast to drop over the weekend, reaching the low 20’s or high teens by Tuesday.
The chance of the first snow of the season is a perfect time to remind islanders of some common winter weather wisdom:
- Be prepared to keep you and your family warm, fed, and comfortable in case roads are impassable or power goes out.
- Stay off of snowy roads if at all possible, and if you must drive, drive carefully.
- Only call 911 for emergencies. Call 376-3599 to report power outages.
- Take precautions to keep your pipes from freezing.
- As always, use common sense and take care of your neighbors and others around you. It’s the island way.
