Wednesday, February 6, 7 – 8 p.m., Sea View Theatre

— from Justin Cox —

On Wednesday, Feb. 6, head out to the Sea View Theatre on Orcas Island, where SeaDoc Society Science Director Joe Gaydos will take the audience on a multimedia journey through the incredible Salish Sea ecosystem.

The free live show will feature the top photos from SeaDoc’s Salish Sea in Focus photography competition, which was presented to a packed house at the IMAX theatre in Seattle last October. After receiving a steady flow of requests to bring the show to the island, SeaDoc will make that happen with this one-time-only live event.

The free, family-friendly show is part of the Ocean Night series, which is presented by SeaDoc Society and Camp Orkila. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event runs from 7-8 p.m. Concessions and bar will be open.

The photos from the photography contest offer a unique glimpse of the incredible Salish Sea ecosystem, which spans form Olympia to British Columbia, including the mountains, rivers, cities, beaches and islands throughout. From high-flying bald eagles and deep-diving seabirds to breaching killer whales and seafloor-roaming Giant Pacific Octopuses, you’ll be hard-pressed to get a more impressive tour of this jewel of the Pacific Northwest. Gaydos’ live presentation brings the rich stories behind the photos to life and will inspire viewers to connect with the place they call home.

Ocean Night takes place on the first Wednesday every month through the Winter. The last two events have filled up, so arrive early, especially if you want concessions.

The SeaDoc Society is able to make this a free event thanks to donations from Dean and Audrey Stupke, Jim and Kathy Youngren, Barbara Brown, Barbara Bently, West Sound Marina, The Averna Family (Deer Harbor Charters), Madrona Inn Bar & Grill, Shearwater Kayak Tours, San Juan County Marine Resources Committee.
