— from Sheriff Ron Krebs —
On Monday, August 6, at approximately 10:30 a.m. an Orcas Island resident reported a suspicious item on a Turtleback Mountain trail. Photographs and a description of the item were sent to the Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad who then responded to Orcas Island to investigate.
At approximately 7 p.m., the explosive was neutralized. The item was determined to be an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) by Members of the team.
The Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is assisting the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation into the IED.

What in the world?
No. You will NOT keep me from enjoying the trails and freedoms our island and country! If anyone knows who is responsible for this – speak up. This is NOT the time for the “code of silence”. Is there ever really a time for that?
Question; are we sure it’s not a portable meth-cooking “lab?” (highly explosive, I believe.)Let’s get the facts asap, please.
Meth on Orcas? I thought legalized pot and the natural beauty of the place took care of everything there?
Neil— it should but many don’t read the fine print:
Most substances that chemically alter your state of mind are addictive. Addiction leads to abuse; abuse leads to violence.
Another example of why we need a Reckoning with Reality!
It says an item was discovered and that item was an IED? Is that easily confused with a meth lab?
