Explore the history of lime stone quarrying and the lime industry on a “Cruise into History” and benefit the Orcas Island Historical Museum.

Visit remaining lime kilns along the shores of Orcas Island aboard the 56-foot vessel “Orcas Express.” Embark on a journey back in time when our islands were booming with promises of industry and employment for families who mainly relied on farming and the sea.

Local historian Boyd Pratt will narrate this fascinating cruise into a time when the coopers were kept busy building barrels to ship lime; when firewood-cutting was in high demand and forests were logged to keep the limekilns burning and the goods moving; when horse and wagon and many laboring hands moved materials and steam vessels carried the barge loads.

The tour departs from the Orcas Island Eclipse Charters office at the Orcas Landing. Check in at noon, for the tour from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $99 + tax, and include lunch: Orcas Village Store chowder and Napa salad, treats and beverages.

Proceeds will benefit the Orcas Island Historical Museum & Society
