||| FROM INGRID MATTSON for ORCAS ISLAND LIBRARY |||

You may know the Orcas Island Library provides notary services, wi-fi hotspots, and board games, but did you know we also distribute envelopes for prescription drug returns/take-backs? In partnership with the Coalition for Orcas Youth (COY), you can grab a mail-back bag to safely dispose of unused medications, keeping them out of the hands of youth and out of our waterways (e.g., if they were flushed). Bags are located on the shelves by the book return at the circulation desk. Grab one, drop in your meds, seal the bag, and drop it at the post office for free.
We are grateful COY has taken the lead on making this service available at the Library, Island Primary Care’s Orcas Clinic, the Fire Station, and the Orcas Community Resource Center. Thanks also to COY and Ray’s Pharmacy for keeping a bin so you can physically drop unwanted medication off. Island organizations know we do better when we work together to make resources available to folks at a variety of times and locations, and we’re happy to offer this service to the community.
