— from John Van Lund, SJC Public Works —
Crews expect to complete construction of the west bank cofferdam and excavate the interior to create a work area below the water line.
Crews will then set up a large pneumatic hammer and begin driving long cylindrical support piles into the ground to create a stable base for the new Deer Harbor Bridge.
The purpose of the cofferdam is to provide a dry space below water to construct the footing and abutment walls.
Please note the finish date may be extended into the New Year. We will know more in the coming weeks as we see how the foundation construction proceeds.
Thank you for your patience and please drive safely.
