Monique Mead captures the hearts of strings classes at a previous session as Musician-in-Residence

Popular violinist Monique Mead returns to Orcas the week of April 25th – 28th to inspire students of all ages.  Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival’s (OICMF) Musician-in-Residence program makes it possible for children to learn from highly skilled musicians.  Mead will work throughout the week with K-12 students in the Strings program, Martin Lund’s band class, as well as pre-school students.   Her passionate teaching style has  created a loyal following on Orcas for the past several years.

Monique has been educating young audiences since 1996, gaining widespread recognition in Europe and the United States.  She performs chamber music, presents concerts and develops education projects for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the San Diego Symphony, Rockport Chamber Music Festival, Mainly Mozart in San Diego and the Strings Music Festival in Colorado, where she and husband Andrés Cárdenes serve as Music Directors.  Musician-in-Residence Monique Mead is sponsored by Mimi and Slim Sommerville.

Community and student musicians will also have the opportunity to work with Monique,as well as see her perform, during a Master Class session.   This event takes place Wednesday, April 27th, from 5:30-8:30pm at St. Francis Catholic Church.

Tuition is $15 for individuals, $25 for groups.  Students are invited to attend free of charge.  Young musicians will be scheduled beginning at 5:30 pm, followed by the adults.  Call the OICMF office at 376-6636 to sign up.
