— from Cindy Carter —
Eagle Forum of SJC is hosting an evening to get to hear what the candidates for local offices have to say. On Friday, October 17th, Sheriff candidates, Treasurer candidates and County Council candidates will appear, along with Jamie Lund from the Freedom Foundation, who will discuss the state education levy.
Sheriff candidates Rob Nou and Ron Krebs will be in attendance for the debate, as will Treasurer candidates Rhonda Peterson and Tony Fyrqvist. County Council candidates Jamie Stephens and Mike Pryce have also accepted an invitation to the debate.
Also on the ballot are several initiatives, including I-1351, which would increase school funding. Jamie Lund, speaker on staff at the Freedom Foundation, will be attending the Forum to speak on this initiative. Jami Lund is the Freedom Foundation’s Senior Policy Analyst. From 2004 to 2011, he developed legislative policy as a research analyst for the Washington House Republican Caucus. Prior to that he worked for the Freedom Foundation as the Project Manager for the Teachers Paycheck Protection project, shepherding the development of the Foundation’s landmark U.S. Supreme Court case to protect teacher rights.
The ballot has several other initiatives including two on Firearms. Rick Boucher will make a presentation on those two initiatives. There will also be a short tax presentation on the state of taxes in SJC, since there is a county-wide levy lift and several school district levies on the ballot this fall.
The Candidate/Initiative Forum will be held at the Firestation in Eastsound on Friday, October 17th at 5:00 pm.
