Calling all word nerds, spelling enthusiasts, and brave souls willing to face the dictionary! The 4th Annual Orcas Island Adult Spelling Bee returns on Friday, October 23, at 7 p.m. at the Orcas Center, promising an evening of friendly competition, community spirit, plenty of laughs, and perhaps a few spectacular spelling mishaps!

Hosted by the Orcas Island Public Library, this beloved annual event brings islanders together for a lively celebration of language, laughter, and the joy of a little friendly rivalry.

We’re looking for adult contestants who are ready to step up to the microphone and put their spelling skills to the test! You don’t have to be a champion speller to participate—just bring a sense of humor, a little courage, and a willingness to have fun. To participate, please email sgailey@orcaslibrary.org.

And while the competition is strictly for adults, the audience is open to all ages! Bring the kids, invite the grandparents, round up your neighbors, and come cheer on your favorite spellers.

Now in its fourth year, the Orcas Island Adult Spelling Bee is about much more than getting the letters in the right order. It’s about bringing our community together, sharing a few laughs, celebrating our love of words, and creating the kind of memorable island experience that reminds us how much fun we can have when we gather in one place.

So brush up on your vowels, mind those silent letters, and dust off your dictionary. Whether you’re competing for spelling supremacy or cheering from the sidelines, this is one community event you won’t want to M-I-S-S!
