Caleb Klauder plays for friends old and new at Orcas Center this Saturday

Orcas-reared Caleb Klauder last performed at Orcas Center with his Foghorn String Band. This year, he’s bringing his Country Band and his new old-timey vision of country and honky-tonk music. Caleb leads the band on guitar and mandolin, accompanied by pedal steel and electric guitar, twin fiddles, upright bass and drums. Whether he’s crooning on a slow ballad or driving a two-step with the mandolin, Caleb’s music is pure and energetic.

Klauder says, “I am thrilled at the opportunity to share with the Orcas Community, the music and stories of my experiences since I left the island as a young man.  I carry my childhood memories wherever I go and I find joy in sharing stories of Orcas life with others. We are lucky to know this beautiful place. Let’s take care of it and nurture it for your future generations.”

Caleb Klauder’s warm sound, authentic and familiar, feels  all at once contemporary and vintage, as though it’s coming from the porch next door. Raised in Doe Bay, Caleb writes songs in a country style influenced by everything from old time ballads to Cajun dance music and his songs reflect the ups and downs of life that we all understand so well. Klauder now lives in Portland, Oregon, with his 15 year old son, Elijah.

Winner of Portland Music Awards’ Outstanding Achievement in Country Music in 2008, Caleb has been on tour for the last fifteen years throughout the US,  the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Malaysia playing a variety of stages including Bumbershoot, The Seattle Folklife Festival,  the Newport Folk Festival, Chicago Folk and Roots Festival and many others. You won’t want to miss this highlight of the 2011 season.
