Any new levy must have a term or it will fail again. We have the right to elect commissioners to manage our Fire Department; we also have the right to control the tax capital the commission provides to the Chief. Terminating either one of these rights is unacceptable.
This Chief and Commissioner Fuller seem to seek independence from the voters with an excessive and permanent levy. This theory has been rejected by the voters twice. We should not have to listen to that nonsense again.
I really don’t care that much about the exact funding amount for the department. Our fire commission is obligated to put forward a responsible and reasonable financial plan the voters will support. A permanent levy with numbers we saw last time is neither and will would be rejected again.
Let’s hope this fast tracked special meeting will include something new from our Chief and Commission.
Mr Abood is correct. The levy must have condition for review after a few years. The levy can not be permanent
