To the community of Orcas Island & those friends from far away:
Last year, I was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer. I received treatment at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, in Seattle.
As anyone who has dealt with cancer knows, treatment is rigorous, scary, as yet somewhat primitive, and requires real fortitude to undergo. One of the reasons I was able to gather the courage to start treatment, was the support that I received from the people of Orcas Island. I’ll be forever grateful for the financial support, and encouragement
that was gifted to me.
A special thanks to Daniela Pereira, who graciously set up a Go Fund Me page for me, which community contributions (including those friends from far away) were immediate and generous.
A final acknowledgment to those of you who have gone through cancer treatment: I have a great deal of respect for all of you; your courage, heart, and tenacity.
As anyone who knows Sherry can attest, she faced this challenge with the same grace, positive attitude, and courage with which she lives her life. So glad for her that she is on the other side of the treatment regimen.
