— from Bethany Marie for Orcas Center —
Ruth Moody is a two-time Juno Award winning singer-songwriter and founding member of the internationally renowned, Billboard-charting trio The Wailin’ Jennys. Ruth has performed in sold-out venues around the world, made numerous critically-acclaimed albums, received five Juno awards nominations, and has appeared more than a dozen times on NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion.
During her 2019 Pacific Northwest tour, Ruth Moody and her band come to Orcas Center on July 12 to share their unique brand of folks-roots music. Beyond being immersed in the full concert experience, the band will also treat attendees to insights on the instruments and styles of music they play, the arranging process, vocal technique, and life on the road.
Although best known for her work with The Wailin’ Jennys, Ruth Moody is an artist of exceptional depth and grace in her own right. Critics have lauded her ethereal vocals, impressive multi-instrumentalism, and her talent as a songwriter. Written with a maturity and wisdom that belies her age, her songs are timeless, universal, and carefully crafted, all sung with an intimacy and honesty that is unmistakably her own. These Wilder Things, released in 2013, features guest appearances by Mark Knopfler, Jerry Douglas, Aoife O’Donovan, Mike McGoldrick, John McCusker, and The Wailin’ Jennys.
Ruth Moody and her band, (Adrian Dolan on fiddle, mandolin, viola, mandola, and vocals; Adam Dobres on guitars, ukulele, and vocals; and Sam Howard on upright bass and vocals) will be performing on Orcas Center’s main stage Friday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $15-$47, and are available online at www.OrcasCenter.org.
