||| FROM DOUG BECHTEL for ACTORS THEATER |||
The Actors Theater will hold auditions next week for the play “Women Playing Hamlet” which will be presented at the Grange the second and third weekends this November.
Here is how this play is described:
“Hamlet’s a challenge for any actor, but when Jessica is cast as the titular character in a New York production, it sends her into an existential tailspin. It doesn’t help that her acting coach is borderline abusive, or that every Starbucks barista with an MFA tells her she’s too young for the role. Or that she’s somehow managed to make Sir Patrick Stewart her nemesis. Not to mention the fact that she’s a woman. How can Jessica figure out “to be or not to be,” when she can’t even figure out herself? Featuring an all-female cast performing multiple roles, Woman Playing Hamlet is rip-roaring fun for Shakespeare fans and haters alike.”
The script calls for a minimum of four actors playing multiple roles up to 19 actors ranging in age from teens up, some female and some male roles but ALL played by women. As the script says “In the time of Shakespeare, men played the female roles, why not have the women play all the male roles too?”
We will have auditions for the play next Tuesday, August 29th at 6:30pm at the Grange.
No acting experience needed, just the ability to read from the script and have fun. If you are interested in being part of the play but can’t make the auditions, call, text or e-mail the Director, Doug Bechtel to arrange a different time to audition.
There is a copy of the script at the counter of the Library.
Hope to see you next Tuesday.
