The Actors Theater of Orcas Island announces auditions for “The Curious Savage” by John Patrick. This charming and funny play tells the story of Ethel Savage (played by Lillian Gish on Broadway) who has been committed to a “sanitarium” by her children hoping to “bring her to her senses” so they can get their hands on the ten million dollars her husband left her.
Aided by the other residents of the sanitarium, she manages to foil her children and as she gets to know her new friends, she realizes that she will find happiness with them and prepares to spend the rest of her life with them. As we follow this play to its surprising ending we learn that sometimes the people on the inside are more sane than those on the outside.
This play has roles for six women and five men in a wide range of ages. All of the characters are wonderful and unique and the actors will have fun inhabiting them. Rehearsals will begin in mid-December with performances the final two weekends in February.
Auditions will be held at the Grange on Tuesday, December 7th at 7:00 pm and will consist of readings from the script after a short warm-up period. If you are unable to attend the audition but want to be considered for a role or if you need additional information, contact the director, Doug Bechtel, at 317-5601. A copy of the script is available at the counter at the Library. A sample rehearsal schedule (subject to change to meet the needs of the actors) is included with the script at the library.
