Uncle did that in the mid ’50’s in the SF Bay area. For a minimal price ($1?) bought a small house in Benicia that was going to be torn down, put it on a barge, sailed down the Carquinez Strait, up the Petaluma river to Petaluma then trucked it to Bloomfield and the foundation he and my dad built. Lived in it until he found another project… like the barn he converted to a house in Pleasant Hill.
He and his wife and four kids didn’t seem happy unless they were living in the middle of a project.
