Sunday, August 26, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Eastsound Waterfront Park
— from Gretchen Krampf —
This gathering, a Sister Vigil with Lopez Islanders, is to mourn the loss of another Orca whale calf and acknowledge the grief of the Southern Resident Orca. These whales hover on the edge of extinction and have not had a successful birth in over 3 years.
Bring a chair or blanket. Come share your songs and prayers and send them out across the Salish Sea.
We are requesting 17 minutes of silence on the sea by all motorized vessels, from noon until 12:17 p.m. to honor the number of days Tahlequah carried her dead baby.
**If you are reading theOrcasonian for free, thank your fellow islanders. If you would like to support theOrcasonian CLICK HERE to set your modestly-priced, voluntary subscription. Otherwise, no worries; we’re happy to share with you.**
