We hope you are having a wonderful summer filled with fun, family, friends, and activities to enjoy, maybe even some travel. We have an exciting year planned for our members with the return of the much-loved garden tour, continuation of our monthly newsletter, educational programs, and member-only events. Your ideas and suggestions play a crucial role in shaping the future of our offerings and help us serve you better.
Our membership drive has officially begun with the season running from September through May. We sincerely hope that you will join us for another outstanding year of great programs and professional development. Membership dues remain at $25 for individuals and $35 for couples. The Orcas Island Garden Club welcomes members from all the islands and beyond! Your membership funds, along with the proceeds from the annual garden tour, allow us to offer superior speakers and programs on a variety of gardening topics, as well as the ability to give grants to organizations within our community.
Being a member gives you exclusive access to member-only special events. Last year we offered several flower-pressing workshops, a tour & picnic at the Turtleback farm location of Orcas Participatory Agriculture program, a field trip to the tulip festival at RoozenGaarde & a stroll through the WSU Demonstration Garden. Also, just around the corner, members are looking forward to Dahlia Day on September 2nd, an event featuring a collaborative floral design activity.
We’ve given a lot of thought to Garden Club offerings to allow members flexibility, whether it’s simply viewing recorded videos as time allows, or sharing your skills by volunteering. You can spend as little or as much time as your schedule permits, but there are a multitude of ways to get more involved. Volunteering feels good and fosters individual personal growth while enhancing our community, which supports our inspiring Orcas Island Garden Club purpose:
- to stimulate knowledge and love of gardening,
- to cooperate in the protection and conservation of nature, and
- to assist in the beautification of the community.
We have an incredible leadership team that’s keeping our club humming and we are all eager to hear from you. We will continue to offer hybrid meetings in person and by Zoom and look forward to our first program of the season with Eliza Habegger — Creative Rewilding with Native Plants — on September 20th. This is just the first of many fantastic 2023/24 programs to come.
We sincerely hope that you will sign up or renew your membership this year as our Club continues to grow and promote the love of gardening. Your commitment means we can further support our local community while providing you the opportunity to make friends, network, learn and have a little fun too.
With gratitude to all our members and those we will soon meet.
