90 days to get blue-ribbon ready for this year’s fair

Spring has sprung, flowers are blooming, gardens are growing, the sun is shining and birds are chirping.  This year’s Fair theme “A Wheel in Time: Cultivating Roots” reminds us of the cyclical nature of the seasons and the cycles of life.  Now is the perfect time to start planning your fair entry to ensure you are blue-ribbon ready for entry day on Tuesday, August 13. If you haven’t already thought about what you are bringing to the Fair this year, don’t worry there is still time to plan. If you are wondering what to make, bake, sew or grow and need ideas – take a look at our 2019 Fair Premium Book, online now at www.sjcfair.org. 

Important deadlines to note – so mark your calendars: 

• If you would like to submit your writing to the Island Writers Fair Department, the deadline for submissions is July 19. Submissions can be emailed to info@sjcfair.org. Please review the premium book for rules and submission requirements.
• If you are bringing an animal to Fair as an open class exhibitor, be sure to contact your department superintendent by August 1 to ensure space availability. 
• If you are planning to enter your horse and ride at the Fair as an open class participant, you are also required to have your forms & payment into the Fair Administrative Office by August 1. Registration forms for open class horse participants can also be found at www.sjcfair.org. 

Great news for youth participants again this year – anyone who was born after August 2003 who enters an exhibit in the Fair will qualify for free entry to the Fair. Lastly, if you are a 4-H participant and need information for 4-H entries, please visit: https://extension.wsu.edu/sanjuan/4h/helpful-links-and-documents/.
